Nocton Wood Walk

Nocton Wood Walk is a 3 mile circular walk from the Dunston Fen picnic site, 1.5 miles from the village of Dunston. The walk will take you along a mixture of quiet country roads and grassy or chalk farm tracks which can get muddy in the rain, but should be suitable for all terrain buggies in dry weather.


  • Distance: 3 miles (6.5km)
  • Route Types: Circular
  • Time: 1.5 hours
  • Starting Point: Aim for LN4 2HB to reach Fen Lane in the village of Dunston. From this point, drive east along this lane (which becomes Dunston Fen Lane) for 1.5 miles. Stay with the lane as it swings left (with Nocton Wood on your left) and, where the lane swings right, fork left into the parking area. The walk starts an finishes at Dunston Fen Stepping Out car park.
  • Rating: Easy terrain.
  • Access: There are no kissing gates or stiles. The walk follows a mixture of grassy paths, chalk farm tracks and quiet country roads. Please note there is a 1.5km stretch of country road you have to walk down, so be cautious of traffic.
