Father's Day in Lincoln
Sunday 21st June marks Father's Day, and while it's looking a little different this year, it doesn't mean we can't plan a day out or a few treats for our wonderful Dads. We have rounded up some ideas for ways you can celebrate this special day, including ideas for Father's Day food and drink, day trips and places to visit locally and gift ideas from local businesses.
Family Friendly Walks and Days Out
Lincoln Castle Grounds and Wall Walk
If you're looking for somewhere nice to spend this Father's Day, why not head up to the centre of Lincoln for a stroll around the grounds of Lincoln Castle? The medieval wall walk is now open, giving you stunning views across the city. A family ticket for the wall walk is £25.50 (2 adults and up to 3 children) and must be pre-booked via their website. Social distancing measures are in place in the grounds (which are free to enter) and a one way system is in place.
Doddington Hall- Gardens and Estate Walks
Doddington Hall Gardens are now open for you to enjoy, 10am-4pm daily. Garden admission: Adult £7.50, Child £3.50, Family £19. Tickets are available on arrival at the Gatehouse. Please adhere to social distancing guidelines. Or if you fancy a peaceful family walk, there are some routes you can explore around the estate free of charge. Details can be found here. The coffee shop in the Giant cycle shop is open and it’s the perfect location for a takeaway treat before or after visiting the gardens or going on a walk. If you're out on a Father's Day cycle ride around the Doddington area, it's the perfect spot got a stop off.
Tortoiseshell Woods and Porters Lodge Meadows
If the weather is good, why not pack a picnic and head out to explore this 21 hectare nature reserve? You can follow a waymarked path through beautiful woodland and around meadows. Please note dogs are not permitted. For more information please click here.
Lincolnshire Limewoods
Another area to visit for a Father's Day walk is The Lincolnshire Limewoods area, between Wragby, Bardney and Woodhall Spa- a great place to explore, with ancient woodlands, medieval abbey ruins, and lots of wildlife. For maps and more information please visit here.
Whisby Nature Park, Lincoln
Whisby Nature Park is the perfect spot for a post lunch Father's Day walk. The reserve is a beautiful landscape just off the A46 in Lincoln. It's full of wildlife, walks and trails. A former quarry, the reserve now features a series of lakes, surrounded by walking trails, woodland and lots of wildlife. There are six waymarked trails to choose from ranging from 1.2 to 3 miles. Paths are level and in many places have a hard surface of compacted limestone, ideal for pushchair walks. For more information about the walks, click here.
