Family Photography with Life: Lived Photography

Family photos and pictures of our children growing up are one of the things I treasure most. We all know how time flies, and how our little ones change so quickly. I have always tried to capture and document moments through their childhood, from the early baby days, through to the toddler days and now the school days. It's not always easy though, and photos of the four of us together are rare. Having a set of beautiful professional photos is the ultimate keepsake, and a wonderful gift to send to family and friends who you may not have been able to see recently or for family who live further away. If you're looking to capture these precious moments and have some beautiful keepsake photos, read on to find out more...

Today we are showcasing a wonderful local family photographer, Elora, from Life: Lived Photography based in Metheringham, Lincolnshire.

Hi Elora, tell us a bit about your business. When did you start your business and where are you based? How did you get into photography?

I have loved photography since I was in high school. I started learning on film, and then moved on to digital when it came around. I did photography as a hobby for a very long time, but when I had children of my own I began seeing how truly important it was as a documentary tool, capturing all the little things that go by so quickly, and so I decided to put my skills to good use and capture those memories for others, and so Life: Lived Photography was born. I am based in Metheringham, Lincoln, but travel all over Lincolnshire and Newark to photograph families (and their pets!).

What type of photoshoots do you offer? (also do you do indoor studio as well as outdoor photoshoots?)

I specialise in capturing natural and fun imagery outdoors in a location that is special to my families, or in their own homes, because there is nothing more honest than tripping over children’s toys! I also have a small studio in Metheringham for newborns and toddlers mostly, still with a focus on connection and capturing those natural moments that for me are the most important thing of all.

How would you describe the style of your photography?

I don’t pose my clients. I make some suggestions as to what they might do, or where to stand for the best light, but then I let it evolve as it is. I always make sure that I have asked if there are any special things in particular they want to try and photograph- little quirks or habits that their littles might be growing out of such as a favourite snuggly toy, or how they love being tickled or having piggy back rides! My aim is to give these children memories of the love they have surrounding them.

What can you expect when you arrive for your photoshoot and during the photoshoot itself?

Depending on the type of photo shoot that has been chosen, we take a few minutes to get to know each other, especially for the children and any pets. Then we either walk to the first location, or do a quick tour of the house to check the light and the rooms that we want to use. I always try and get a full family group photo first, (what I call the "grandma shot", as a traditional portrait is always appreciated). Then after that, we just have some fun – we blow bubbles, jump on the bed, splash in puddles, have tickle fights, collect leaves, snuggle, and I just step back and capture it all.

Other types of photoshoot

I am starting to offer underwater photo shoots this year. I will be running them as mini sessions every few months, and will be posting them on my page. Full family sessions can also be booked as individual pool sessions too. I’m so excited to start offering these!

How do you book a photoshoot?

Booking a photo shoot is easy, you can either just email me directly or visit my website or Facebook page and fill out the contact form. At certain times of the year, I run mini sessions, and those will have a direct booking and scheduling system, but for normal family sessions, I just organise directly with clients for the best day and time that works with their schedule. Once we have booked the session in, clients receive a welcome pack in the post, with a prep guide, and some goodies!

When can we view our photos and what is the viewing process?

Once the session is done, the images are edited in about 2-3 weeks. For mini sessions they are posted in a private, password protected gallery, and clients can view and download the ones that they want. For full family sessions, I generally come to the client’s home with a slideshow of the images and some product samples and we go through all the options together and choose the best fit for them. At the moment, however, I am not doing this because of Covid-19, so instead I am putting them in an online gallery, with a phone / Skype consultation to help in choosing the right product / package.

Prices and packages

Full pricing can be found on my website, but in general, for full sessions I charge a deposit of £50 which is then used as credit towards a package of choice. Packages are suitable for every budget, starting at around £199 once the deposit is taken off. When I run mini sessions, the session fee varies depending on the type, but is usually around £30 and includes a digital image. Additional images start at £15 each but there are packages available as well.
